A swollen heart You pull the trigger back And release, let’s see where the shells land Bang bang Holy shit These fireworks ain’t the ones made for kids If there is heat The food will probably cook Mysteries explained in a recipe When he died I felt sad For all the great things I assumed he had There’s always been enough Miles and miles of doors all locked up Keep finding the keys but they aren’t cut Here they come Always sniffing around Here they come Always sniffling around Looking for clues Anywhere on the ground The high life let me down again last night Here’s an idea Why don’t we move away Settle down in a house in another state Dark green Or navy blue I need distractions like the ones we once knew It’s late at night The bars are closing up You call a cab to bring you to your next spot I should go home Lay on the stoop The next morning hang myself with a hula hoop The job is shutting down Take a right hook straight to you bank account Stare at a screen and scream through your eyelids Here they come Always sniffing around Here they come Always sniffling around Looking for clues Anywhere on the ground The high life let me down again last night I had a dream Before I woke up I was in my old house And then the lights went out

Started off a day in the most incredible way Pouring log cabin syrup all over a stack Of warm pancakes Just another day Mowing lawns for minimum wage Listening to the latest sounds recorded on cassette tape Failing immune Systems intact Life is full of anxiety attacks Heading out for while Showing off my latest freestyle Building ramps and jumping skateboards over a flaming wood pile Plywood forts in the woods Hammers slam rusty nails in old wood Another splinter, another tick on my leg, its what we do good Failing immune systems intact Once yr gone yr never coming back One step forward ahead of the pack Life is full of anxiety attacks But later on that day The homies Mike and Jay Came thru with some coupons for fast food We called Ed and Nick And told them get ready, quick Pulled in around five Buzzing like a honey bear sticking his hand in a beehive Walked through the door and made a real mess on their floor Failing immune systems intact Once yr gone yr never coming back One step forward ahead of the pack Life is full of anxiety attacks

about

Everyone is talking about “The High Life Let Me Down Again Last Night”, the new maxi-single from Mike Chick, out now via Mint 400 Records.

Recorded throughout the second half of 2020 at Waving Cat with Rudy Meier. Rudy also sings backups on “Pine Lake Park”, the b-side of the single.

Both songs feature Sam Bey on drums. Drums were recorded at New Future with Paul Richie in February 2020.

“High Life” features Nick Bock on bass guitar. Mike plays bass on “Pine Lake Park”. Both songs feature tambourine.

Pat Noon of Eightsixteen Recording mixed and mastered the songs.

Influences for this release include Sloan, Guided by Voices and late-era Sonic Youth.

These songs, along with a clean edit of “High Life”, acoustic version of “PLP” and instrumentals of both tracks, will be streaming everywhere as of 3/26/21.

No physical release is scheduled at this time.

Alex Flannery created the cover artwork.

Text by Modern Animals.

Thank you to everyone involved in this project. Hope you enjoy the songs.
